Let’s be real—if you’re in social media marketing, you’ve probably felt a bit uneasy with the explosion of AI technology, right? There’s this underlying fear that we’re all about to become obsolete. But I’m here to tell you that’s simply not true. However, we do need to embrace these AI tools and use them to our advantage—because if we don’t, our competitors might take over because those guys are DEFINITELY using them.
The key is learning how to leverage AI like ChatGPT to streamline your processes, from strategy development to content creation. This means you can produce more content in less time, cut down on planning, and, most importantly, spend your time focusing on what AI can’t do. And it’s those unique, human elements that will make sure we get to keep our jobs in the long run.
Why You Should Lean Into AI Now
Your competitors are already using AI tools. If you’re not, you risk being left behind. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. In this post, I’ll walk you through how to use tools like ChatGPT to develop an effective social media strategy, plan and execute content, and ultimately, charge higher rates because you’ll be more efficient!
Before you continue – you can also download my guide to creating effective ChatGPT prompts where I’ve included all the prompts we cover in this tutorial. Let’s dive into how you can start training ChatGPT to speak in your voice and help you build a killer social media strategy here:

Creating a Personalized Strategy with ChatGPT
First up, let’s talk about how you can guide ChatGPT to help you create a custom social media strategy. Here’s a prompt I use:
“I’m looking for a personalised strategy to grow my Instagram following. Here’s some info about my business: business name, industry, target audience, current social media presence, business goals, resources, unique selling points, competitors, marketing budget, and plans for collaborations or user-generated content (UGC).”
This is just the starting point. You can tweak it to fit your needs, but the key is to give ChatGPT as much information as possible. For example, I told it that my business is focused on teaching people how to create online courses, and I outlined my target audience: small business owners and coaches who want to teach online but don’t know where to start.
By doing this, ChatGPT understands not only what my business does but also who I’m trying to reach. It can then offer tailored advice, like focusing on educational carousel posts or creating lead magnets like “10 Ways to Increase Course Completion Rates.” All from one prompt.
Getting Into the Specifics: What ChatGPT Can Do for Your Business
Let’s say you want ChatGPT to go deeper into your strategy. I asked it to break down my Instagram strategy by giving me ideas for different types of posts—like carousels, reels, and stories. It even suggested how to split my $400 budget between organic and paid strategies, and how to improve my engagement rate.
Here’s an example of the types of posts it came up with for me:
- Educational Carousel Post: 5 Ways to Make Your Online Course Irresistible
- Reel Idea: Why Teaching Can Revolutionize Your Business
- Instagram Stories: Behind-the-scenes content of course creation
The more you provide ChatGPT with information about your business and goals, the more personalised and actionable its strategy will be.
Use Multiple AI Tools for the Best Results
Here’s a pro tip: Don’t rely on just one AI tool. I also used Gemini (Google’s AI tool) and Claude (from Anthropic) to compare their strategies. Each tool provided different angles. For example, while ChatGPT focused heavily on engagement tactics, Claude emphasised lead magnets—like my favourite, “10 Ways to Increase Course Completion Rates.”
The beauty of using multiple AI tools is that you can merge the best insights into one cohesive strategy. Just pop all the suggestions into ChatGPT (or your favourite tool) and ask it to combine them into a master plan.
Fine-Tuning AI to Match Your Brand Voice
One of the most common complaints about using AI is that it can sound, well, robotic. But here’s how you fix that: train the AI to write in your brand’s tone of voice.
For example, I gave ChatGPT a caption I’d written for Instagram and asked it to analyse my tone. It came back with: “This brand’s tone of voice is authentic, relatable, and self-reflective, with a strong emphasis on personal growth and learning.” It even nailed the fact that I use emojis and a conversational style.
Once you have this defined, you can feed it into any AI tool so that everything it generates sounds like you. No more robotic, stiff content!
Let ChatGPT Analyze Your Social Media Presence
Before you dive into creating new content, you want to make sure your existing online presence is up to par. I had ChatGPT analyse my Instagram bio and make suggestions based on my brand voice. Here’s what it came up with:
Original Bio:
150,000 students empowered. Top instructor on Skillshare. Udemy partner.
Suggested Bio:
Empowering over 150,000 students to create online courses that captivate and convert. Ready to create a course that sticks? Let’s start today.
It also recommended including more behind-the-scenes content, which I hadn’t really been doing but makes sense for building authenticity.
Creating a Content Calendar with ChatGPT
Now that ChatGPT knows your brand, audience, and goals, you can ask it to build out a content calendar. I divided mine into 30 single-image posts and gave ChatGPT some extra prompts to come up with captions, hashtags, and even image suggestions.
Example Content Idea:
- Topic: Online Course Creation Tips
- Summary: 5 ways to make your course engaging and valuable for students.
- Caption: “Want to know the secret to creating an online course that students love? Here are five proven tips to boost engagement! 👇#OnlineCourses #DigitalMarketing #SmallBusiness”
- AI Image Prompt: A cozy recording setup with high-quality video and audio equipment, natural light streaming through a window, and warm lighting.
With just one prompt, ChatGPT created a full content plan that I could execute for the month, complete with captions and hashtags.
Reels, Carousels, and More!
Don’t forget to divide your strategy by content type. While ChatGPT handled single-image posts, I asked it for specific reel ideas, too. For example, it suggested I create a reel around common mistakes people make when creating their first course.
You can also prompt ChatGPT for hooks (because we all know how important those first few seconds of a reel are). Once I had my topics, I broke them down even further, asking ChatGPT to list the common fears, desires, and frustrations of my audience. This gave me a deeper understanding of what content will resonate most.
Final Thoughts
AI isn’t here to replace us—it’s here to help us work smarter, not harder. By using tools like ChatGPT, you can streamline your social media strategy, free up time to focus on what really matters, and level up your business.
